MaisonBisson: The Lost Tapes….

I discovered recently that my content database is [missing a bunch of stories][1] from the first weeks of 2005. I tempered my feelings of loss with the knowledge that I couldn’t remember the title of more than one of the 21 missing stories. While looking into a question about my out-of-date RSS feed today, I discovered that it had clues to the content of twelve of my missing stories. They clearly weren’t that important (what is?), here’s what I have anyway:

  • Sun, 16 Jan 2005 04:35:40 — San Francisco Community Wireless: SFLan

I’m slow to learn of these things sometimes, but among all the other community network efforts is San Francisco’s SFLan. Their network map is online. I’ll have to keep this in mind next time I’m out there.

    Paragliding in Nepal.
I just noticed an Apple marketing story about Dick Jack

Main Stairwell at the Maxwell Hotel, San Francisco

  • Thu, 13 Jan 2005 07:01:22 — Gatto On Educational Philosophy

I stumbled accross John Taylor Gatto’s “Lessons From The Underground: History Of American Education” earlier. Gatto has won awards from both New York City and New York state departments of education for his excellence as a teacher, but something happened along the way and he started writing essays very critical of the educational system.

Early on in Gatto’s history, he points out a few touchstone…

The University at Buffalo School of Informatics is following up on A 1999 study that found “increased Internet use in the U.S. had not produced a reduction in the public use of libraries.” George D’Elia, professor in the Department of Information and Library Studies headed up the 1999 study and is leading the followup. The UB press release has D’Elia describing internet and library users…

A hint at MacOSXHints reminds of of the following stupid terminal trick:

I like stories. I like a narrative. I say that so you’ll understand what I mean when I say Charles Eicher’s story about a Vanguard Motion Analyzer was pleasantly longer and richer than expected for a simple blog entry. The story involves early technology, a little history, some secrets revealed, and a bomb.
