Digital Camera Reccomendations

Pentax Optio S40.A friend asked me what digital camera she should buy. Her criteria were that it be small and inexpensive. My answer: the Pentax Optio S40 with a 256MB or 1GB SD card. Why? It’s less than an inch thick, is hovering at just over $200, and works well.

My slightly upscale alternative is the Olympus Stylus 410, but XD memory cards are much more expensive than their SD cousins. Still, Olympus’ new Stylus Verve looks like a winner.

Nobody asks me about it, but I’m increasingly interested in solid-state video cameras like the Pentax Optio MX, soon to be replaced by the Optio MX4. These are little cameras with neat features.

[note:] it looks like the deal on the Gateway DC-T50 is gone. However, it’s likely that every camera named here is better anyway.
