Phonepedia: a Voice-Activated Wikipedia Mashup

Mix Jott.com and Wikipedia over ice, shake, and pour.

This simply combines two cool things: Wikipedia’s vast encyclopedic content and Jott’s voice recognition service. All I’ve done is make enough glue to put them together and allow us all to call up and get answers. It’s not perfect, but it’s worth playing with. More introduction.

What? Let me see

Ask your questions by phone, the answers come back via email and SMS. Here are some examples:

  • What is "I Have A Dream"?
  • Who is Martin Luther King Jr.?
  • Who's the inventor of the light bulb?
  • What is Library 2.0?

How can I use it?

  1. Register for Jott.
  2. Add the Phonepedia Jott link:
    1. Click the “Jott Links” tab.
    2. Click the “Add it here” link.
    3. Enter the details:
      Link Name: Phonepedia
      Setup Url: [blank, none needed]
      Link Url: http://api.maisonbisson.com/phonepedia/
click all the check boxes, and Save
      configuration form
  3. Call 866 568 8123.
  4. Ask a question to “Phonepedia”.
  5. Get an answer.

Just to be clear, and before anybody asks, this is in no way officially affiliated with or sanctioned by the Wikimedia Foundation or Jott.com.
