A while ago now I bought a Aiptek GO-HD 720p from Amazon for cheap. The FotoRamp review was helpful; links to actual raw video convinced me; but this video review was absolutely no help at all.

The <a title="Aiptek GO-HD vs Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1 or HD2; $299 HD camcorder attacks HD market" href="http://fototramp.blogspot.com/2007/06/aiptek-go-hd-vs-sanyo-xacti-vpc-hd1-or.html">FotoRamp review</a> was helpful; <a title="Footage from the Aiptek GO-HD - The Digital Video Information Network" href="http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?p=688044">links to actual raw video</a> convinced me; but <a title="Aiptek A-HD 720P High Definition Camcorder Reveiw Video - Metacafe" href="http://www.metacafe.com/watch/785645/aiptek_a_hd_720p_high_definition_camcorder_reveiw/">this video review</a> was absolutely no help at all.</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t <a title="All brands" href="http://www.flickr.com/cameras/brands/">track the brand on Flickr</a>; but a search reveals a few photos (<a title="New Aiptek Go Hd test photos... FILE0008-6.jpg on Flickr - Photo Sharing!" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/laserone/2530558004/">one</a>, <a title="Mt. Hood from the air on Flickr - Photo Sharing!" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/joshb/2316946102/">two</a>), a <a title="my world turns around on Flickr - Photo Sharing!" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/fotex/2457619317/">video</a>, and even some photo panoramas (<a title="over newquay on Flickr - Photo Sharing!" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/adeo/2455376004/">one</a>, <a title="towan beach panorama on Flickr - Photo Sharing!" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/adeo/2454547873/">two</a>) assembled from the video. You can see <a href="http://www.flickr.com/search/?s=int&amp;w=41894176272%40N01&amp;q=aiptekgohd+test&amp;m=tags">my own test videos here</a> (note the link to the raw video in the description of each).</p>
<p>The camera works well with both iMovie and iPhoto. Upon plugging it in, iPhoto launches and prompts to import all the photos and video. The video is available in iMovie from within the iPhoto library browser. Though most video gets delivered online (and at resolutions somewhat lower than HD), the additional resolution allows you to zoom in on sections of the recorded video seeing much quality loss in the output. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/maisonbisson/2600989449/">This video</a>, shot on the Aiptek and edited in iMovie, demonstrates:</p>
<p><object width="600" height="338" data="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=66164" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="flashvars" value="intl_lang=en-us&amp;photo_secret=afb6c0fcfc&amp;photo_id=2600989449&amp;show_info_box=true" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="src" value="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=66164" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /></object></p>
<p><strong>Update:</strong> my biggest complaint with the camera is the lens&#8217; limited wide angle ability. This might not be a problem for others, but it was enough of an annoyance for me that I <a href="http://maisonbisson.com/blog/post/13321/diy-fishey-lens-for-aiptek-go-hd-camera/">built my own wide angle add on lens for it</a>.</p>

<p><a href="http://photron.com/products.cfm?id=KingOfHighSpeedVideo" id="KingOfHighSpeedVideo">Photron&#8217;s APX-RS video camera</a> can capture 250,000 frames per second at top speed, and it can get megapixel+ resolution at 3,000 frames per second. It&#8217;s one of a dozen or so cameras in <a href="http://photron.com/">Photron</a>&#8217;s lineup that can shoot very, very fast video. How fast is a thousand frames a second? How fast is several thousand frames a second? Numbers alone do a bad job of telling that story. That&#8217;s why they did up this set of <a href="http://photron.com/gallery/gallery.cfm">sample vids</a>&#8230;<span id="more-10647"></span></p>

<p>I like the water balloon best, and I&#8217;ll bet you watch it a few times with your jaw open while you wonder about the physics you&#8217;re seeing. But if that doesn&#8217;t do it for you, there&#8217;s video of guns firing, engine cylinders firing, rockets firing, phones dropping, waster splashing, stuff injecting, propellers cavitating, clubs clubbing, flies flying, cars crashing, snakes biting, and cookies flipping.</p>
<p>Oh yeah, it&#8217;s Friday&#8230;.before a long weekend.</p>
<p>Here are some more videos to get you through a day if you&#8217;re stuck in the office:</p>
