This little ‘zine just scored distribution with Borders book stores. But if you can’t find it there, take a look at Modern Drunkard Magazine online.
Take a look at their Wino Wisdom section where you’ll find gems like “The secret of being a good drunk is not to try to hard. To me, it just comes naturally. You might even say it’s effortless.” And “I don’t smoke filtered cigarettes for the same reason I don’t drink whiskey through a bar rag.”

It’s been a good month for The Drunkards…
In addition to the Modern Drunkard book, “On The House: The Bizarre Killing of Michael Malloy” hit the book stores this month. It’s the true story of a Depression-era drunkard who thwarted numerous attempts on his life. All except the last one, of course. Check out the author’s web site at http://www.simon-read.com.
The Oakland Tribune says “First-time author Simon Read… delivers a firecracker of a thriller…”
“Read relates the facts of this 1930s crime, yet his sense of humor bubbles underneath. There is a kind of poetry in the way Read links words into phrases, sentences to story. His style is magnetic, and his humor lies in wait, ready to surprise and delight… (The) book is graphic and the story gruesome, but in a larger sense, it affirms the tenacity and grandeur of the human spirit.”
Another review noted that Malloy had “more lives than a Hindu cat,” adding, “I’ve never read a true crime book like it. Neither have you.”
You get the idea. Cheers.
