I support the efforts of any human being, no matter how nonsensical and dangerous it may appear, that in today's day and age devotes their life to the plight of animals. I think he was an unusual man, but he had a wonderful spirit and purpose. It's an absolute shame that he die in such a manner. I believe his work will still by and large be beneficial to wildlife. I only wish more people could devote their lives so selflessly, myself included. It makes me ashamed that the only active role I play in animal conservation is donating money.

I, myself, think he was a good person, although clearly crazy.

I have some things I'd like to point out.

1. Amie was not a naive city girl. She grew up in Ohio, with full knowledge of bears. She loved Timothy with all her heart and trusted him. Timothy was NOT responsible for her death. She knew the risk. People say that she didn't, but she did. Grizzly bears were her passion.

2. Treadwell did defend the bears from poachers. In 2004, at least six bears were killed illegally by poachers. There were no such cases of poaching this extreme when Treadwell was around because he scared off the poachers who were doing illegal hunting. You have to admire his bravery and devil-may-care attitude, however, because there are few who do those kinds of things. You must admire his skill of living out there for thirteen summers with those magnificent animals.

3. The bear that ate Timothy and Amie was not a well-known bear. This bear was skinny, fragile, and had just arrived. Because Timothy spent longer in Alaska than usual, he experienced the bears he met dwell into winter dens. These bears were replaced by scrawnier, poor bears, that possibly came farther up from the mountains and arrived to find better sources of food. The bear, I think, was just an abused, skinny, poor bear that hated humans. The death of these human beings were not accidents. I assume the bear was purposefully after Amie and Timothy. The thirteen years Timothy was there, he was possibly never challenged by a bear like this. I think that Bear 141 was just remembering what had happened to him in the past. He possibly was sedated, tatooed, and done tests on and abused.

4. Timothy was not mental. He may have had some different thoughts than the average person because he loaded up on drugs such as heroin and cocaine in his past. Because of these overdoses, he sought a better healing and went to Alaska. The overdoses were so intense that they possibly caused him to become a little wacko....

5. This last one is just my opinion. I think he did some great things, and got some great footage. Before you say I am suicidal and crazy for being inspired by him, I will specifically tell you that I am just a normal man with a normal job. I am glad there are people out there that want to save the animals. I personally did not know Treadwell, but because I am so inspired and awed by this man's work, sometimes I feel that I do. Timothy and Amie...thank you for doing what you wanted to do in life and walking past the fog of everyone else's deadly criticism.

In some ways you have to admire Timothy Treadwell for doing what he loved. At the same time however, there are several problems that have to be addressed with his methods. First, Timothy Treadwell was no expert. He did what he thought was best for the bears but overall what was best for himself. This selfish attitude led to not only his death, but to the death of his girlfriend as well. The way he carefully tried to shape the reality that was shown through his documentaries is very contradictory to the good that he tries to portray. If he really wished to show the reality and project his since of right and protection of these animals, would he not have left it unaltered? Wouldn't he refrain from multiple takes? He wanted acceptance and he believed he had found it among these bears. Tragically he was mistaken. He never really became a part of the bear community he so desperately wanted to belong to and it cost him his life. You can only imagine himself questioning his actions in those final moments. The bottom line however is this, Treadwell did more damage than good. Not only did he and his girlfriend die, but also two bears were killed when discovering what had happened. Most experts also believe that his methods and antics were simply wrong and detrimental to the neutral relationship between humans and bears. Treadwell can be admired for his courage and passion, but at the same time it should be understood that Timothy Treadwell was selfish in his actions.

I think that the show drew me in by thinking i would hear the "tape" where everyone in the shoe listened and made their faces and comments, I cannot because that was withheld. Much respect to the family but if you want the story to get out there you need to provide all of it.

Tim wasn't that fucked up. He was just sick of the same ol' BS in daily life. People in our society dont care about anything but $. He was trying to protect the bears from poachers, for all the morons who have to ask what danger the bears where in. He just got to the point in life where many of us have been before. He wanted a purpose in life, He wanted to do something helpfull while on the planet. He died doing something he loved, which is more than all the idiots caught up in the ratrace of our american society can say. I respect his decision to do what he wanted, He found a place to get away from all the evil in the world. His mistake was bringing a regular up there. Either way however, he died in honor, doing something he loved, and probably enjoyed the peace and tranquility he was able to enjoy before his tragedy. He didnt try to kill himself, it was an accident. They happen everyday. I dont think he was mentally disturbed, he just wansn't the normal ant that everyone one else is ok being. He took back his own life and did what he wanted with it. I wish I had the courage to go live in the wilderness too, we all should, but we cant because we've all been raised to be ants and slaves to the man. Who and what owns all you people? There is no such thing as freedom, anymore. He was close to it. To live like a wild animal is the closest to true natural behavior and real freedom. So hurry up and get back to work, so you can pay your bills.

He was in a very dense area. Lots of bushes and trees. They call it the Grizzly Maze so it was like you say, riddled with trails. They said he normally camped out in the open so he could/they could see them/him ahead of time. This time he camped in the thick of the bush. From what I understood, he was headed out of there but got into it at the airline terminal with an employee and headed back...it was very late in the season and he usually did not stay this late. Have a good weekend...Sherie

Did he always camp on trails or near trails? I mean Kaflia is just riddled with bear trails, I don't know if he had much of a choice. I thought he used to camp inside tree sheltered areas. Was he out in the open?

I am unsure of they had food in their tent. His girlfriend was there with him. I hope they didn't as they tell you never to do so, to instead run it up a tree. The bear I saw in the last video takes he did, days before the attack was thin and ribs showing. He kept saying..."This bear is so grouchy" as if to not realize the fact that it was starving or appeared to be and all the other bears had already gone into hybernation, but this one hadn't. They say if they are to lean or under weight, they will still forage for food before they go to the den.

The last day of filming before their deaths, he mentioned a very "grouchy" bear was coming around. As I looked at this bear in the footage, it seemed very apparant that is was most likely starving. It's ribs were exposed and winter was upon them and for whatever reason, he did not detect this fact. I think his decision to stay later than normal was a costly one. I have enjoyed the photos he took of them. (Thousands of stills.) I have enjoyed the footage and knowledge of living with these animals. He lasted 13 summers so he knew how to survive with them. (Try it sometime?) This bear was starving. It devoured two humans in one sitting. They never should have killed the bears for that. They should have gathered the remains and or not and called it a day. He never would have wanted them killed. I noticed they could not wait to cut off their paws. I think if he interferred with the photographers he may have been run off. Had they been poachers I am sure he would have. Reading some of the hateful words in here...well, some of you are way more crazy and full of venom than he ever dreamed of being. I liked him. I believe the human race is now mostly made up of mutants. Deranged mutants like most of you are.
Shame on you.

Through his unconventional and irrational obsession for these animals, he showed great disrespect for them. He was living in a state of altered reality, and did more harm to the bears than good. It's a shame he died, but he brought it upon himself.

A JOB OPENING: To all the posters who are sympathetic to Treadwell "The WellDead". His position in Alaska has not been filled. Bring plenty of film, friends and food (food to feed the Fox, you and friends for the Bears). We'll be doing a "lottery" to guess when you'll be eaten. You Plumb Dumb Idiots.

After watching "The Grizzly Man" twice on TV, I realized three things. 1) Treadwell did absolutely ZERO for the grizzly bears accept for provide calories and protein. 2) Grizzly bears typically show their appreciation toward humans for "keeping them safe and healthy" by savagly attacking, killing and eating them. 3) If I were one of the guys in the documentary paying thousands of dollars to go on a guided grizzly bear hunt in Alaska and somebody ruined my trip, I would be slightly more than angry.

You know, at first when my mom told me about this story of a man who lived out in the wilderness with grizzly bears, I thought this man was completely INSANE. I mean, why would you want to spend your whole life having to watch your back from grizzly bears and praying they don't rip your flesh off? But then, the way my mom told it, was that this insane, mental man went out in the wilderness and lived there forever. His whole life. But I watched Grizzly Man and the the documentaries on this man, and no matter how insane or mental this man was, he was very brave. Now, I know being brave and having courage does not matter because he still died. But the love and determination that he had for these bears is more than we could ever have. He saved these bears from poachers, and as soon as this man was killed, 6 grizzly bears were found poached and dead. That's how strongly this man cared for these wonderful creatures, and although he was a bit insane, I look up to this man.

So, let me see here. This guy gets a pat on the back for what? How does this documentary help out the bears? Where in that entire 3 hrs did we see any bears being poached? How did he think a log with " Hi timothy, see you in 2001 " was a threat? Also a pile of rocks with a smilie face on it too? Did this guy have an awesome stash of wacky tobacky? I feel this film just showed that 1 man had nuthin better to do with his life and it showed. It made me feel like this was a person that had no goal. He watched a movie where bears were hunted, whoa god forbid hunting animals, and he got mad and got $ from some rich idiot to do nuthing. Someone tell me where in this entire film did he stop poachers from going out and hunting bears. So what was learned here. BEARS ARE DANGEROUS! I am so glag that I watched this 3hr long pointless video.

Everyone has dreams, and if you don't I feel very sorry for you.

He wasn't sucidal, he had a dream, and simply just died trying.
Aparently not many understand, and yet an autisic 13 year does. That's pretty sad there.

As brave and inspiring as people say this man was, he got what we (Alaskans especially) knew was coming to him- the main course for the bears. The way we look at it up here is if they come in your kitchen, that's one thing- but when you're in theirs, your open game. That is not to say that I don't feel bad for the pair- no one should die such a horrible death...but then again, it was their choice(s) to be in the Griz's kitchen, and that's that! Also, I can't believe they put the bear down...their kitchen, their rules- why put the bear down when it was only doing what came naturally- EAT!
