Funny…I just spent a few hours last week writing a very ugly VBS script to send SMS messages easily without requiring me to open Thunderbird or a web browser.

Services like Yahoo! Mobile and Backpack’s reminders can send SMS messages, but as far as I know, they’re just using the same email addresses that Verizon, et. al. expose to everyone. A quick search on Google turns up all kinds of commercial SMS gateways, but all of the ones in the top 20 results want some sort of subscription.

There is at least one FreeBSD licensed WAP/SMS Gateway, and a few commerical versions that might be capable of sending carrier agnostic messages. But, with such a high probability of the service being abused, who would want to set that up on a publically available server?

I wrote a small ASP.NET script to send SMS over email from our server - mostly for friends to use and since my cell service is such crap.

Benn trying to figure out how to handle the whole from name, S:, M: issues - but I have a feeling those may only be appearing on my POs phone…

Hey all you kids, come over here and listen a minute. You got your problems, I know, I been there. What I got now I need you little ones to help with. My wife had been seeing someone since before we even began dating (which would have been really cool with me to point out when I met her instead of when I found her texting pics of herself 3 years later.) And she’s a prof, he’s on the board and I was just an MBA student - which one of those got to roll on outta B’ton.? All I have is some bank accts, decent text records and phone, but they of course don’t have the content. Do any of these ATT features I never heard of work where I could get some more info about what has been up? Like M2MC and M2M Text and sometimes his says ‘other” instead of text, like she’s downloading him some secret off the internet and sending it. I can’t get to her phone, her computer, anything. Been trying all that. Best I got is no money - figuring out where she was spending it is making me less worried about court, though; I got 2 1/2 years of cell phone and text message records (BUT I can’t figuree out how not to PAY $15!!) everytime I run across a cell number reverse search. I took enough of your time. It’s Saturday morning. Go watch some cartoons and then get outside and play. And then let me know what I can learn from these codes and things like 602/Follow Me and such.
