Delicious, Refreshing, Old Liquor Bottles

Delicious Refreshing Grenadine.
Elixer Vegetal. Caution 190 Proof.

So grenadine isn’t officially a liquor, but it gets kept behind the bar and this one has a great label. The collection comes from the estate of a friend’s mother, who appears to have had a taste for old martini culture (not pictured are several bottles of vermouth).

There’s more in my Flickr photoblog.

I have a unopened sealed 1/4 pint bottle of “bottled in bond” whisky that dates back to prohibition. There are two dates on the seal, one says fall 1917 and one above it says fall 1931. The label reads “Kentucky Tavern Whisky, bottled in bond under the supervision of the U.S. government. H.S. Barton Distiller, Owensboro, Ky. The rear label reads “These spirits were taxpaid at the non-beverage rate for medicinal purposes only. Sale or use for other purposes will subject the seller or user to very heavey penalties”……..It also says Manufactured prior to Janeary 17, 1920.”

This bottle belonged to my grandfather who ran gambling rings & night clubs outside of Chicage during the 20’s and 30’s.

Does anybody have any idea of any value this might hold, or where I could find out??

    Thanks,

  18. Comment by Joseph Grosso on August 22, 2007 2:30 pm

I have a collection of miniature liquor bottles from the 1940s. Included are blown glass bottles shaped as various animals. The collection totals six animals and fifty bottles factory sealed from several companies. Many of the bottles still contain the liquor. I want to offer them for sale. However, I need a contact to determine the monetary value of this collection.

I have an unopened 750 ml bottle (in a nice light brown suede like gift box) of Hennessy Cognac XO that was given to me around 1977 when I lived in Indiana. The IRS tax stamp has the number 648545017 on it along with Schieffelin & Co I-35 who I believe was the import distributor in New York.

Can anyone tell me the year the tax stamp relates to, the approximate current age of the cognac and most importantly the current value. I plan to sell it on the internet and need a benchmark for pricing.

    Thanks!

This month I found two whiskey bottles that have no marking on them and look like standard pint whisky bottles and are amber or dark brown colored and were identical. They only say Federal law prohibits the sale of alcohlic beverages on them. they were found at a since closed down and removed lumber mill site in California. I belive it shut down in the 50’s. Doea anyone have any idea what they might be. I thought the bottles were sold to people who may have made their own whisky and would put t up in these containers.

I have a walk in closet of scotches and many other full vintage bottles of fine liquors from the past 50-75 years that was in my family all this time. There are 5-6 crates, only 2 have been opened and so many different brands of liquors, most of them top of the line and some are in very fancy bottles.
Is there anyone out there who can appraise either in person or by description or photo or both.
I believe there is a lot of healthy value in this collection of hundreds of sealed bottles.
Please respond to Steve at s777uccess@aol.com if you have any information that will prove helpful to me.
